Applique

Last Sunday in our meeting Pilar asked about applique. She is planning on putting some in her quilt but she is not familiar with the technique. There are several ways of doing applique, and I think it all depends on how detail you want to be, how much work you want to put into it, whether you have a machine or not but most importantly how you want it to look.
I started looking for examples of applique in my books and I found a few pictures that I wanted to share.
These are some examples of applique. These bags are all made by machine, and the applique has the raw edges visible, and they are sewn to the base with different stitches, some of them sewing outside of the applique (like the white bag with orange squares).
I apologize for the poor images, it's as much as I have been able to do today, my son has been keeping me busy ;)

Or you can follow the following technique I found in one of my books, using paper to make it stiff while you mount it and then removing the paper at the end:

Do you have any other suggestion or technique that you want to share with us?

Gracias Carmen,
Son buenas ideas que me ayudaran a "resolver" como hacer mis aplicaciones!!!
Ayer aprendi a usar el papel wonder-under, a si es que luego les contare como resulta.

Thank you Carmen,
Those are good ideas that will help me to solve my problems about how to use my apliques!

Yesterday I learned how to use the wonder-under paper, so, later I will tell you how it was.

I love that flour sack bag! Applique is tedious. I prefer 'freestyle' where the raw edges are covered with decorative stitching. If it's done right, it can be nice. Hawaiian applique is really pretty.
